Great! We’d also like to know how you used the Debate Kit and what you thought of it. Are there any ways to improve it?

This will help us make the next Debate Kit even better.
I used it to show my PGCE secondary Science student teachers a) a useful resource in a different format from many b) a particularly useful resource to use to help with debates in class c) to raise awareness of ‘I’m a Scientist…..’
The character cards were helpful in helping students prepare their argument. I gave them time to research more on some of the some of the keywords like blood doping. I have used it with year 9 and 10
I used them as stimulus material, they were not enough for a debate on their own, even with a small class but had some good ideas.
Thank you for developing them.
very good and useful for the new AQA B1 biology specification. Please make us some more varieties!!!
The kit had a quit success
Yes, I’ve used the debate kit twice and it was well received and stimulated debate. I prefaced the debate with a short session on the types of drugs in sport and the variety of sports affected using a very short powerpoint. If I had a suggestion it would be to have some sort of information resource, such as a powerpoint, so that all students are on a par (as far as prior knowledge) before the debate.
I also put a brief summary of each position on the whiteboard when using the eight-man option as otherwise they might have become confused.
P.S. Our PE department had also recently introduced the topic so there was good cross-curricular co-operation as well as relevance to the Olympics. I also pointed out that the equipment for drug-testing in London (and elsewhere) comes from a company in greater Manchester.
The kit was really good ! – I used it with a Year 9 biology class, had them in groups with a chair person leading the disscusion and making a verdict on whether or not to ban drugs in sport. The cards really helped to liven up the debate with facts figures and personal anicdotes. The chair for each group had to compromise on the decision as there are valid reasons both for and against a complete ban. I then set a literacy based homework where they justified their own opinion on the use of drugs in sport.
Thank you
I did the scientists in sport challenge with a science club and used your kit to enhance the practical aspects.
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to organise a debate as such. It is the first time one of your debate kits has been relevant to chemistry so I was delighted to have it.
Brill loved it used with three mixed ability classes then went on to do some research about drugs in sport
