Big Data Debate Kit

“Should we sequence one million people, to find out more about healthy aging?”

provisional cover Big DataWe all want to live longer, healthier lives, and tools are now available to delve into data to look for the key to the fountain of youth.

As technology evolves and scientists gain greater insights into our genomes, the projects become more and more ambitious. But, as it happens, facts and theories are just one part of the story.  This Big Data Debate Kit explores the social, ethical and political issues behind it:

  • Ethics
  • Privacy
  • Technology
  • Sampling
  • Funding

This simple educational resource allows your students to understand better the emerging field of Big Data, as well as question what influences the way science is done. The activity is design to last for 50 minutes and takes very little preparation.

The debate kits are free to UK and Republic of Ireland based teachers. They will be dispatched over the Summer Holiday.  Sign up to receive a Big Data Debate Kit!

This kit has been funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and Science Foundation Ireland.
