Our Science Debate Kits (a free STEM resource) develop students’ discussion skills around scientific issues. They allow you and your students to debate and discuss the power and limitations of science, and then consider the ethical issues which may arise.
The kits contain 8 debate cards outlining the opinions of fictional characters with an interest in a given science topic, and teachers notes to help you to carry out the lesson effectively. Some of our debate kits also include online resources.
The science curriculum calls for a greater understanding of the limitations of science and the potential ethical questions surrounding it. Our science debate kits are designed to meet this demand. Their neutrality, together with role play, offers students the opportunity to explore the different sides of the issue and compare others’ points of view.
For teachers, the kits provide an effective and structured resource containing up-to-date information, which can be used again and again with little effort or preparation. They are also a great way to introduce ethical issues that are otherwise difficult to bring out in the classroom.
We have received lots of positive feedback from teachers, including praise for the topics covered, content and structure of the debate kits. “Really looking forward to trying out this new debate kit. Previous ones have set the bar high!”
