I’m a Scientist is partnering with the Royal Institution again this year, to complement the CHRISTMAS LECTURES with a new Debate Kit.
Following the 2024 theme, The Truth About Food, this Debate Kit supports students to explore humans’ relationship with food by asking ‘Do we have free choice over what we eat?‘
Request your free printed Kit ❯Food is something we all interact with every day, but our food and food environment is changing rapidly. Food industrialisation develops new foods and widens our choices, but brings a separation between producer and consumer.
There’s a huge range of foods and information about them now available to us, as well as new media sources that might influence us – some that students may already be familiar with.
What will students’ debates consider?
Using the Food Choice Debate Kit, your students will explore the factors influencing the choices they make about food, to decide whether or not they think we’re really in control of what we choose to eat.
- Who influences our food choices?
- How does our internal biology affect the choices we make?
- Do we know where and how our food is produced?
Support your KS3 and KS4 students to explore new positions and perspectives through 8 thought-provoking character cards.
The Kit is designed to facilitate a debate lasting around 50 minutes, requires very little preparation, and is free to schools in the UK.
Kits will arrive in schools in the new term (January 2025).
The Food Choice Debate Kit is produced by the I’m a Scientist team on behalf of the Royal Institution. It is funded by the Ri’s CHRISTMAS LECTURES title partner CGI, along with fellow CHRISTMAS LECTURES partner UKRI.
